New Spirit Wear for the 2015-2016 School Year!!

Dear Parents,

The last couple of days of school are here, we know everyone is very busy and the children are getting very excited about summer. We just wanted to let you know about some exciting news for the coming school year.

We will be having new T-shirts and Sweatshirts!

There will be 5 DIFFERENT styles of t-shirts for your child to wear every day of the week to school.

  • The price of each t-shirt will be $15 each or (5) t-shirts for $60. We are very excited about this, as we have had the current t-shirts for the last 3 years and feel like this is going to be a great change for the children.

We will be having a new sweatshirt with a new design. We have had the current sweatshirt for 3 years.

  • The price for each sweatshirt will be $20 each.

We will NOT be selling jackets this next school year.

We will have the t-shirts ready for purchase at Meet your Teacher day. Please check the school web page for information about spirit wear. We will be placing pictures of the t-shirts and the sweatshirt online for you to view.

We hope everyone has a great summer and look forward to seeing you for the 2015-2016 school year.

If you have any questions please email the PTL at Apolloptl1@yahoo.com

Thank you

Apollo PTL

Testing Letter from Mrs. Dupree

MARCH 16-20, APRIL 14-15 and MAY 4-7

Dear Parents,

We will begin state testing next week.  The PARCC tests for grades 3-5 will be given on March 16-20 and May 4-7 for ELA and Math.  The LEAP/iLEAP Science/Soc. Studies for grades 3-5 will be given April 14-15.    Though this looks like a lot of days with testing, the time allotted is actually shorter than what we have done in the past.  The students should only be testing for around 90 minutes daily.  Students with 504/IEP extended time accommodations will have longer.   It is imperative that we create a quiet, settled, and controlled environment throughout the entire school.  This takes the cooperation of all students and parents in every grade.

We will start the tests promptly at 8:30 a.m. every morning.  This means that the children have to be settled by this time.  The buses arrive and drop off at 7:55 a.m. Students that are dropped off by parents need to be here no later than 8:15 a.m.   I am asking my custodians to block off the carline by 8:15 a.m. on testing mornings and lock the back doors.  ANY STUDENT ARRIVING AFTER 8:15 A.M. WILL HAVE TO COME TO THE OFFICE to be checked in.

Due to testing security, NO VISITORS OR PARENTS WILL BE ALLOWED TO WALK THROUGH THE BUILDING DURING THE TESTING DAYS.  NO LUNCH VISITORS WILL BE ALLOWED DURING THE TESTING DAYS.  The lunch schedule will be changed because we have to work our testing students into the cafeteria whenever possible.

Be sure that all students go to bed early and get up early enough to help create a calm and relaxed morning.  Please arrange for any appointments to be late in the afternoon or changed to other dates.  We really don’t want kindergarten through second grade students walking through the building unless totally necessary.

Apollo finally moved to an “A” grade this year because we did so well on the tests last spring.  The tests this year will be similar.  We have been preparing our students all year for these tests.  We have chosen the theme, “Let’s hit it out of the PARCC!”   We will support and cheer for one another from Kindergarten through 5th grade.  We would like the parents to join our team and help make this the best environment for testing possible.  Thank you for your help and cooperation.

Bossier Teams Come Out On Top at RARC

The challenge was on at the 2014-15 Regional Autonomous Robotics Circuit (RARC) Competition 2 on February 28 at the Bossier Civic Center, but Bossier Schools were up for the contest.

Approximately 200 teams from school districts across the region vied for honors in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics competitions sponsored by the Cyber Innovation Center’s National Integrated Education Research  Center.

Keeping with this year’s RARC theme of Exploring New Realms, teams were assigned a mission to program and autonomously navigate a robotic vessel through a simulated solar system. Elementary and middle school teams used their robots to build a command center on a new planet, gather resources to sustain life on that planet and employ their robots’ sensors to locate a neighboring planet.

The high school teams utilized their robots’ accessories to detect space debris hindering their path through the solar system on a quest to claim a planet. To earn the greatest number of points, high school teams were challenged with engineering a mechanism for their robot to autonomously plant a flag on the planet.

Throughout Competition 2, teams accumulated points based on their performance and were ranked accordingly. In the elementary division, Apollo Elementary Team 3 emerged as the first place winner, followed by Curtis Elementary Team 1 in second place and Apollo Elementary Team 9 in third place.

In the middle school division, Cope Middle Team 7 earned first place, while Cope Middle Team 10 captured second place and Haughton Middle Team 3, third place honors.

The second place winner in the high school division was Parkway Team 1.

“We are proud to see the students excel at these STEM and cyber challenges, said G.B. Cazes, Vice President of the CIC. “They are developing skills today that they will use throughout their academic careers a

There are plenty of them at Bossier Schools. You know the ones. Those who go above and beyond the call of duty. Those whose actions exceed their job description.

There is no question the employees of Bossier Schools are what set our school system apart. From teachers and custodians to food service workers and counselors, they are all an important part of the Bossier Schools family and we want to recognize the ones who deserve a gold star.

Last year, nine “Gold Stars” were singled out and awarded. Now, we are ready to do it for a second year, thanks again to the gracious support of Bossier Federal Credit Union.

Here’s how it works. If you would like to recognize someone as a “Gold Star” award recipient, nominate them!

When you go to www.BossierSchools.org just click on the gold star at the top of the home page.

It does not matter if you are a parent, colleague or community member. Anyone can nominate a Bossier Schools employee to be a “Gold Star.” Each month new entries will be accepted and judged by a committee. So keep nominating those that are deserving of a special pat on the back.

Let us hear from you who deserves the gold!
