Students with Chris Opp
Check out our new wall art
Apollo Elementary is excited about their new wall art displayed on the front of the school building! The artist is Chris Opp who has been commissioned to do several projects in town such as Airline High School, Bossier City Welcome signs, and Margaritaville. This is the first 3-D sign Chris has done. Chris also has a showing of his works at the Bossier Arts Council until the end of July.

Shining A Light On Illuminate
Now that the school year is underway, parents may be wondering where is School Loop and what is this talk about Illuminate?
Illuminate is an all-in-one student information system that is replacing several systems throughout the district, including the School Loop Parent Portal. The addition of Illuminate will enable Bossier Schools to offer you the most updated information on your child while still encompassing the features you liked about School Loop and more, including email alerts for parents opting to set up notification messaging using the Home Connection Portal.
Once activated, parents will have the ability to log in and be more actively engaged in their child’s education wherever there is an Internet connection. Because teachers’ grade books, absentee reports and other information are entered in this student information system, Illuminate will enable parents to see their child’s assignments, homework, grades and schedule. Throughout the year, additional information will be added, such as a student’s attendance and tardy status in real time, test scores and transcript data.
There are other benefits as well. If a parent indicates their child has allergies or a medical condition, teachers will have that information; state test scores from past years will be available; and families with multiple children in Bossier Schools will be able to view each student’s profile without needing to create separate accounts.
Information about how to create an Illuminate parent portal account will be sent home with your child soon. As you can appreciate, merging student data from the previous system to a new one, the need for it to be an exact match, and entering new student information is cumbersome and taking longer than we anticipated. We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience.
Once it is up and running, we feel confident you will be more than pleased by the new system and the wealth of information available at your fingertips.

KNOW SOMEONE WHO DESERVES A GOLD STAR?
There are plenty of them at Bossier Schools. You know the ones. Those who go above and beyond the call of duty. Those whose actions exceed their job description.
There is no question the employees of Bossier Schools are what set our school system apart. From teachers and custodians to food service workers and counselors, they are all an important part of the Bossier Schools family and we want to recognize the ones who deserve a gold star.
Last year, nine “Gold Stars” were singled out and awarded. Now, we are ready to do it for a second year, thanks again to the gracious support of Bossier Federal Credit Union.
Here’s how it works. If you would like to recognize someone as a “Gold Star” award recipient, nominate them!
When you go to www.BossierSchools.org just click on the gold star at the top of the home page.
It does not matter if you are a parent, colleague or community member. Anyone can nominate a Bossier Schools employee to be a “Gold Star.” Each month new entries will be accepted and judged by a committee. So keep nominating those that are deserving of a special pat on the back.
Let us hear from you who deserves the gold!
THANK YOU TO OUR CORPORATE SPONSORS!
